My wife and I watch the Masked Singer on FOX. Definitely an outlier with regard to everything else I watch, but we really like this silly stupid show. It's the only live and broadcast TV I watch, except sports.
Each week a series of celebrities sing in outrageous costumes and the judges try and guess who they are based on clues and their voice. It originated in Korea, which of course. The judges are all celebrities too. Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger have music careers and know the industry, Jenny McCarthy is an expert on celebrities, and Ken Jeong is funny but horrible at this. The people in the masks don't even know the identities of each other, it's all a big secret. The singers are unmasked usually one per episode. I do always find it off-putting when the crowd chants 'Take it off!' to a woman, but whatevs. One by one we learn their identities until the finale when there are several. The best performers do always seem to survive too, so later in the show the performances are consistently stellar. What really makes it great is that each season FOX has gotten a nice mix including some top notch voices and performers. Some have been legends in music (s1 had Donny Osmond and Gladys Knight!), and others are well known names nobody knew were so talented (like Victor Oladipo).
FOX is clearly capitalizing on the apparent popularity of this show, because there was barely any gap between seasons two and three, resuming the night of the Super Bowl (in case you missed the obnoxious advertising).
S1 was won by the Monster...
who turned out to be T-Pain! He was incredible and totally deserved it.
S2 was won by Wayne Brady, who I guessed on the first episode (fist pump), and was really good. He can sing and dance exceptionally well. But the Rottweiler was definitely better all season long. Every song he did was better than the versions you know. He's been my favorite performer of all so far and should've been the champ.
It happened to be Chris Daughtry, who nobody guessed. I wish he would do more songs like he did on the show because he's amazing. Wait he released one already?
And oh look, season three continues tonight!
